This is a surprisingly easy program to follow! The summer I did this followed the birth of my last child. I was over 200 pounds but determined to get the weight off. After a long, inactive, and cold winter I bought new shoes and some new music and hit the streets. I ran 2 5K's by the end of the summer and was lazy with the training (at least I am honest right?!). Look at it, try it, then decide if you can do it. If you do it you will be running 3 miles in just 2 months.

5) Do the President's Challenge
*copied from the challenge website*
If you're active less than 30 minutes a day/5 days a week (or 60 minutes a day for youths under 18), this program is for you.
The Active Lifestyle program shows you how to make a commitment to staying active and how to stick to it. The program helps you set realistic goals to encourage fitness for a lifetime. The rules are simple. You can choose from all kinds of activities. We'll also give you a personal activity log to guide you every step of the way.
Because your hard work shouldn't go unrecognized, you can also earn awards. You can earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) by performing regular activity beyond your daily activity goal of (30 minutes a day for adults/60 minutes a day for youths under 18) at least 5 days per week, for a total of 6 weeks. As an alternative you can count your daily activity steps using a pedometer.
That means if you stick with the program, you can earn an award in a little over a month. So what are you waiting for?

4) Do a Virtual 100 Mile Walk
I started a blog not too long ago that is a virtual walk. The concept was mulled while watching a movie about unusual roadside attractions. The sites were unusual indeed! A quick google search away and it was easy to find http://www.roadsideamerica.com/ as the springboard. This site made calculating miles very easy AND provided the pictures!!! I will be adding more and more stops to get to 100 miles and eventually I hope to have more than one 100 mile walk available.

3) Eat the Rainbow
The idea behind this one is to eat something of every color of the rainbow. The catch? It has to be healthy! No Cheetos for orange or M&Ms for green...you can do it!
2) Try a new recipe every week
This idea came to me from someone who suggested that I try a new fruit or vegetable every week. Since I am pretty good at trying new things and eating even fruits and veggies, I decided to modify the requirement to one new recipe per week. My family loves the variety. We have had some pretty odd meals and sometimes we trash what I make, but at least we are expanding our pool of recipes we like!
